El PTFE virgen tiene una resistencia qu\u00edmica excepcional y la fricci\u00f3n m\u00e1s baja de cualquier pol\u00edmero s\u00f3lido, adem\u00e1s de un problema de fluencia por compresi\u00f3n que lo convierte en una mala elecci\u00f3n para cualquier pieza bajo carga sostenida. Las cargas existen para corregirlo, y cada una sacrifica algo a cambio.<\/p>\n\n
La fibra de vidrio, normalmente al 15 o 25 por ciento, ofrece la mayor mejora en resistencia a la fluencia y resistencia a la compresi\u00f3n por el dinero invertido, y mantiene casi intacta la resistencia qu\u00edmica. Es la opci\u00f3n por defecto para juntas, cojinetes y componentes de bombas. La desventaja es que eleva el coeficiente de fricci\u00f3n y es abrasiva para la superficie met\u00e1lica con la que contacta.<\/p>\n\n
El carbono y el grafito ofrecen mejor comportamiento al desgaste y conductividad t\u00e9rmica y, a diferencia del vidrio, no rayan el eje. El PTFE con carga de carbono es la opci\u00f3n para cojinetes que funcionan en seco. El bronce aporta con diferencia la mayor conductividad t\u00e9rmica y capacidad de carga, y por eso aparece en juntas hidr\u00e1ulicas y segmentos de pist\u00f3n, pero no es apto para servicio qu\u00edmico porque el bronce se corroe.
